Why should I bother with installing an SSL certificate? I’m not a tech guy. I’m a business guy. I have a website for my business, people can find me, read about what I do, and find my contact information and all is fine. It would take me too much time to bother about some certificates. What can possibly go wrong?

What can possibly go wrong, that’s the question!

Well, have a look at the pictures below. Notice, that the website does NOT have an SSL certificate.

Now, imagine, you have been running a serious business. It took you time, maybe months, maybe even years to get customers and gain their trust. And all of a sudden … your customers check your website and BANG! They see this:

And your customers see this:

And they see much much MUCH more weird stuff! Your brand, your trustworthiness, the public image of your business, and – yes, the public image of YOU goes down the toilet.

OK, to be fair, the question is:

Can a website with an SSL certificate be hacked?

Short answer is: Yes! While SSL helps to improve the security of your website, it’s important to note that it cannot offer a 100% guarantee that your website won’t be hacked. To further protect your website and sensitive information, it’s important to implement other security measures and to educate all employees on internet security best practices. We’re preparing a post on basic security measures for WordPress sites. BUT SSL helps to safeguard websites against various threats, including phishing scams and data breaches.
